(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING 3 DOORS DOWN UPON THEIR 30-YEAR ANNIVERSARY, HONORING THEIR SUCCESSES, OUTSTANDING WORK WITH THE BETTER LIFE FOUNDATION AND SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS.

WHEREAS, formed in 1996, Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum Mississippi rock band, 3 Doors Down, has captivated audiences worldwide for nearly 30 years; and

WHEREAS, current members of 3 Doors Down are Brad Arnold and Chris Henderson; and

WHEREAS, the band's numerous accolades include selling more than 20 million albums globally, receiving a Grammy nomination, two American Music Awards, and five BMI Pop Awards for songwriting, including Songwriter of the Year, and their debut album, The Better Life, became certified seven times platinum by the RIAA and was fueled by the success of the hit song Kryptonite; and

WHEREAS, notable songs by 3 Doors Down include Here Without You, When I'm Gone, Loser, Duck and Run, It's Not My Time, Away From The Sun, Be Like That, Let Me Go, and more; and

WHEREAS, 3 Doors Down established The Better Life Foundation in March 2004, with the mission to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young adults, and the organization is a 501(c)(3) federally tax-exempt charity; and

WHEREAS, for nearly 20 years, 3 Doors Down hosted a benefit weekend that served as the primary source of donations and funding for the foundation, and to date, the foundation has raised and distributed over $5,000,000.00 to reputable children's charities, local municipalities, and faith-based groups dedicated to helping communities and children in need; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, The Better Life Foundation committed to donating funds and providing support and relief to southern Mississippi, which was largely overlooked by the press and media, and working directly with local municipalities, the foundation provided funding to support rebuilding efforts and purchased fire trucks and police cars; and

WHEREAS, the artist, music community, and luminaries from the world of sports and racing have rallied around 3 Doors Down and their efforts through The Better Life Foundation for nearly two decades, and past guest performers at the benefit weekend have included Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tracey Lawrence, Shinedown, Staind, Hinder, Sara Evans, MuzikMafia, Daughtry, Theory of a Deadman, Jamey Johnson, Seether, Collective Soul, Candlebox, Saving Abel, and more; and

WHEREAS, a significant chapter in 3 Doors Down's exceptional career was their support for the Mississippi National Guard, and the band was commissioned by Colonel Mike Jones to write the lyrics for the song Citizen Soldier, which became the rallying cry for National Guard recruiting after the September 11 attacks, and the song played a crucial role in boosting recruitment during a time of historic troop mobilizations for Iraq and Afghanistan, elevating National Guard soldiers and airmen to national recognition; and

WHEREAS, furthermore, the band's partnership with the Mississippi Army National Guard has fostered ongoing initiatives to raise awareness of the National Guard and support recruitment efforts across the United States, and initiated through personal connections and advocacy, this collaboration has resulted in one of the most successful recruitment periods in the history of the National Guard, demonstrating how music and service can come together for a greater cause; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize extraordinary Mississippi musicians, especially those such as the members of the band, 3 Doors Down, whose tremendous success and service to the United States brings honor to Mississippi and our nation as a whole:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize 3 Doors Down upon their 30-year anniversary, and honor their successes, outstanding work with the Better Life Foundation, and support for our troops, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
