A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RIPLEY HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS MARCHING BAND UNDER THE DIRECTION OF SAM CUNNINGHAM UPON WINNING THE CLASS 3A MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 27, 2012, the Ripley High School Tigers Marching Band was awarded first place honors in the Class 3A Mississippi High School Activities Association Marching Band Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this outstanding band won the Class 3A State Marching Band Championship with an exciting performance of their program, a patriotic, powerful and stimulating arrangement called, "The Cost of Freedom"; and

     WHEREAS, Ripley High School's band joins the cheerleaders and Lady Tigers basketball team with multiple state championships, with the band first winning the state title in 2006; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers Band has been magnificently directed by Sam Cunningham and assisted by Tammy Hight and Tim Jackson, who have worked tirelessly to refine the skills of their pupils, accrediting the championship win to the ease of instruction with this group of students and the support of the administration of Ripley High School and the South Tippah School District; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the Ripley High School Band have persevered to attain the highest honor within MHSAA's honors and awards, and they have remained dedicated to refining their talents and honing their musical skills; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers Band has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and an inspirational degree of sportsmanship, and their behavior and attitudes reflect tremendously upon the individual members, their directors and parents and bring honor to Ripley High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the special accomplishments of the youth of this state, who are its future, and who are an outstanding group of student musicians who have brought honor to their school, their parents, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ripley High School Tigers Marching Band and its director, Sam Cunningham, upon winning the 2012 Class 3A Mississippi High School Activities Association Marching Band Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future musical and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Director Sam Cunningham, assistants, Tammy Hight and Tim Jackson, Principal Jeff Palmer, the South Tippah School District School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
