A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH ANTHONY HART FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 3, 2011, the Lafayette High School Commodores Football Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A Championship trophy by defeating Laurel in a hard-fought victory by a score of 38-29 on the strength of an explosive offense and a ferocious defense; and
WHEREAS, for Lafayette, the win marked the end of a perfect season for the Commodores, winning every game they played in the 2011 season, and the Commodores have been unstoppable not only in the 2011 season, but the victory over Laurel was the 32nd straight win for the team; and
WHEREAS, the Commodores' 2011 football roster is as follows: Jeremy Liggins, D.K. Buford, Dylan Busby, Brandon Mack, Demarkus Dennis, Jamel Dennis, Alec Michael, Elliot Markuson, Trey Johnson, Colby Terrell, Tevin Buford, Kam Herod, John Murphree, Cam Pettis, Kalen Coleman, Eli Murphree, Dylan Gossett, Justin Wilson, Josh Barry, DeBrico Burgess, J.D. Driver, Michael Hudgins, Jeremiah Jones, Juan Hardin, Shilo Woodard, Wesley Martin, Drew Davis, Eric Lewis, Keeyon Tyson, Hayden Russom, Tyler Thompson, Kewuan Owens, Ryan Watts, Cortez Coleman, Hunter Stewart, David Hilliard, Mario Toles, Vic Rather, Trae Pruitt, Nick Harmon, Kewjuan Vaughn, Will Andrews, Gordon Liles, DeAndrew Greer, D.Q. Reynolds, Blake Fulmer, Cole Wells, Trae Williams, Morgan Klepzig, Jordan Willms, Austin Arrington, John Chance, Dillon Helm, Trae Alexander, Montreal Nabors, Mason Phillips and Jackson Tyler; and
WHEREAS, the Commodores and Head Coach Anthony Hart have brought additional honor to themselves by receiving, for the second consecutive year, the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy for their incredible national rank of 130 out of an astounding pool of 16,000 teams; and
WHEREAS, as a championship team, the Commodores finished first in The Clarion-Ledger's Super 10 Poll, and are the winners of the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship Football title, and they are the first and only team to complete the season with a remarkable 16-0 record; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such a superb group of student athletes and their coaches, all of whom have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lafayette High School Commodores Football Team and Head Coach Anthony Hart for their outstanding 2011 season and for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Lafayette High School, Head Coach Anthony Hart and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
