House Concurrent Resolution 25

(As Adopted by House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DR. JOHN J. ZIELINSKI, M.D., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, Dr. John J. Zielinski of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, an outstanding Doctor of Medicine who has devoted over 50 years to bringing healing, comfort and hope to the countless patients treated by him, has retired from the practice of medicine on January 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, after being awarded his medical degree in 1965, Dr. Zielinksi completed the Cedar Rapids Internship Program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Surgical Preceptorship at The Surgical Associates in Mason City, Iowa, and ultimately completed his General Surgery Residency Program at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, a true medical professional, Dr. Zielinski's thirst for knowledge lasted throughout his career and, in 2007, he brought an end to his formal education by attending the Gastroenterology Preceptorship at New Gulf Coast Surgical Endoscopy Center in Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Zielinski was awarded the Surgeon General's Award of the United States Air Force in 1972, became board certified in general surgery in 1973 and received a certification award for basic and advanced laser surgery in 1989; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Zielinski's experience includes many prestigious posts such as Keesler Air Force Base, Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he practiced Occupational Medicine, Digestive Health Care in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Biloxi Regional Medical Center, now known as Merit Health Biloxi; and

WHEREAS, while Dr. Zielinski has added immensely to the medical profession through his affiliation with many different health care providers, perhaps the greatest, immeasurable contribution he has made as a practicing physician for over 50 years has been to the untold number of individual patients and their families who, faced with the uncertainty that only a life-threatening illness can bring, have experienced his compassionate care and wisdom in determining the best course of treatment for each particular case; and

WHEREAS, although his decision to say goodbye to a thriving medical practice and the many patients whom he has loved dearly was not made lightly, Dr. Zielinski's legacy as a professional and caring doctor will continue on in the hearts and minds of those he has served; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge and commend the invaluable health care providers who choose to make a living in this state and serve our communities:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the long and distinguished career of Dr. John J. Zielinski, M.D., upon the occasion of his retirement from the private practice of medicine and extend to him sincerest wishes for a long and healthy retirement marked by continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. John J. Zielinski and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
