A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DIABETES CENTER, PLLC, AND KC ARNOLD, ANP, BC-ADM, UPON BEING AWARDED THE 2010 NICHOLAS E. DAVIES AMBULATORY AWARD OF EXCELLENCE BY THE HEALTHCARE INFORMATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS SOCIETY.

     WHEREAS, The Diabetes Center, PLLC, located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, was awarded the 2010 Nicholas E. Davies Ambulatory Award of Excellence by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society; and

     WHEREAS, the prestigious Davies Award recognizes excellence in the implementation and use of health information technology, specifically electronic health records, for healthcare organizations, private practices, public health entities and community health organizations; and

     WHEREAS, The Diabetes Center, owned by nurse practitioner, KC Arnold, focuses on the treatment and management of patients with diabetes 13 years of age and older, and is a stellar example of how healthcare information technology can be used to transform healthcare delivery in America; and

     WHEREAS, having opened on November 1, 2005, as a direct result of Hurricane Katrina, The Diabetes Center has provided access to care for patients suffering from diabetes who were unable to travel elsewhere; and

     WHEREAS, the center serves a patient population of a 75-mile radius on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with approximately 125,000 persons living in the suburban area; and

     WHEREAS, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society is a cause-based, not-for-profit organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology and management systems for the betterment of healthcare; and

     WHEREAS, KC Arnold, ANP, BC-ADM, graduated from SUNY-Binghamton with a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1984 and completed the nurse practitioner program at the University of South Alabama in 1997; and

     WHEREAS, she is board certified as an adult and acute care nurse practitioner, is certified in advanced diabetes management, and is a member of the American Diabetes Association, Sigma Theta Tau and the American Association of Diabetes Educators; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the contributions of such an exceptional organization as The Diabetes Center, and such an exceptional individual as KC Arnold, who are leaders in healthcare and who bring honor to their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate The Diabetes Center, PLLC, and KC Arnold, ANP, BC-ADM, upon being awarded the 2010 Nicholas E. Davies Ambulatory Award of Excellence by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to The Diabetes Center, KC Arnold and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
