A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2011-2012 BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2011 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A HIP-HOP CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Brandon High School Dance Team performed against and defeated several other dance teams from across the state for the title of Class 6A State Champions in the Hip-Hop category at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Championship on December 16, 2011, at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the Brandon High School Dance Team produced a dominating show of talent, courage and commitment to triumph in the MHSAA Class 6A division of the championship competition to achieve an amazing feat, not only in receiving the Class 6A Championship title, but also in winning the Overall Grand Championship in Hip-Hop by defeating dance teams in all of the MHSAA Classes in the Hip-Hop category; and

     WHEREAS, outfitted with a youthful 2011-2012 team, Sponsor Jennifer Williams, along with Choreographer Morgan Broome, managed to compose a championship Hip-Hop routine; and

     WHEREAS, working on their state championship routine to turn it into perfection for the state competition, the team knew it would take all that their sponsors asked of them in order to be confident enough to hit their difficult routine perfectly; and

     WHEREAS, after winning the MHSAA Class 6A Championship title in the Hip-Hop category, Brandon's dance team secured a spot in the National Dance Team Competition in Orlando, Florida; and

     WHEREAS, through a learning process at last year's national competition, Brandon's dance team knows that it will take hard work and dedication to bring home the national title and to assemble themselves for practice at 6:00 a.m. three days a week; and

     WHEREAS, the accomplishments of these Magnolia State student athletes have brought honor to Brandon High School and to the entire State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the accomplishments of young student athletes, such as the Brandon High School Dance Team, whose dedication to their academics and athletics is exemplary of the same dedication of the parents', teachers' and sponsors' commitment to equip them with life's necessary tools, which reflect great honor upon the entire Rankin County School District and the community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Brandon High School Dance Team for their 2011 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Hip-Hop Championship title and extend best wishes to the team for continued success in all of their academic and athletic pursuits.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Brandon High School, Sponsor Jennifer Williams, Choreographer Morgan Broome, the Rankin County School District and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
