A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING VICK BALLARD OF PASCAGOULA, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEING SELECTED AS THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER IN THE 2011 MUSIC CITY BOWL.

WHEREAS, Vick Ballard, an exceptional athlete from Pascagoula, Mississippi, competed in the 2011 Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee, leading the Mississippi State University Bulldogs to their fifth bowl game victory ever; and

WHEREAS, becoming the featured running back for the Bulldogs in the 2010 season, Vick's natural talents and abilities continuously outshined his teammates and peers, making him a unique and versatile athlete; and

WHEREAS, with his skills and athletic prowess, Vick, helped lead the mighty Bulldogs to a victory over the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons in the 2011 Music City Bowl; and

WHEREAS, after a first-quarter fumble that allowed Wake Forest the opportunity to score its first and only touchdown of the game, Vick was unrelenting in his quest to redeem his first quarter mistake and determined all the more not to allow it to dictate his attitude for the remainder of the game, his light began to shine and only grew brighter throughout the remainder of the football game; and

WHEREAS, running for a career-high 180 yards, including a 60-yard and a 72-yard touchdown scamper, Vick towed his team to secure the final score of 23-17 over the Demon Deacons; and

WHEREAS, thanks to the marvelous athleticism of Vick and his long touchdown dashes, MSU was able to overcome four turnovers in the Music City Bowl and bring the trophy home to Starkville to their jubilant fans; and

WHEREAS, besides his success in the 2011 Music City Bowl, Vick has been a candidate for several Southeastern Conference and national all-star awards, and he ranks among MSU's top-10 in rushing touchdowns; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding athlete who has made quite the major impression as an elite Bulldog football player, Vick displays a strong compassion to win, which translates into an effortless ability to stand out among his teammates; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the role-models of our college football programs, such as Vick Ballard, whose enthusiasm and talent for football reflect great pride upon himself, his family, his coaches and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Vick Ballard on being selected as the 2011 Music City Bowl's Most Valuable Player and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
