A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSION, OBJECTIVES AND OUTSTANDING SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE REGIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER OF TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI, UPON THE AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF ITS 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, the year 2011 marks the milestone of the Regional Rehabilitation Center of Tupelo as the institution celebrates the auspicious occasion of its 50th year anniversary; and
WHEREAS, incorporated in August 1961 by Mr. John A. "Red" Rasberry, cofounder and first board president, and Mrs. Nita Butler, cofounder and board secretary until her death in February 2010, the mission of the Regional Rehabilitation Center is to restore and enhance the quality of life of North Mississippians with disabling conditions through rehabilitation services characterized by quality care and personal attention at no charge to the individual; and
WHEREAS, having laid the foundation for the availability and accessibility to some of the most advanced and personal rehabilitative care, the ribbon cutting in December 1962 for the newly constructed state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility ushered in the reputable legacy for which the Regional Rehabilitation Center has come to be known throughout the state, region and nation; and
WHEREAS, the center has served clients from 25 counties in Northeast Mississippi, providing therapeutic services that include: speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiological services and early intervention services; and
WHEREAS, perhaps the most impressive characteristic aside from the services provided by the staff of the Regional Rehabilitation Center is its generosity in serving its patient base free of charge without the added financial pressures imposed upon the client or his insurance company with fear of sliding scale fee or socioeconomic requirement; and
WHEREAS, since its August 1961 inception, more than 150,000 families have been touched by having at least one family member receive services from the Regional Rehabilitation Center, which if extrapolated, would account for over 1,500,000 clients who have received services; and
WHEREAS, in its efforts to continue the longstanding tradition of service par excellence, comparable to none other, the Regional Rehabilitation Center underwent a $2.3 million renovation project complete with ribbon cutting in January 2010, marking a transition to new and improved services to best address the growing need for rehabilitative service throughout the state and region; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend such institutions of venerated rapport as the Regional Rehabilitation Center of Tupelo for answering the call to service of those in need of rehabilitative and therapeutic care:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the mission, objectives and outstanding services provided by the Regional Rehabilitation Center of Tupelo, Mississippi, upon this most auspicious occasion of its 50th year anniversary, express grateful appreciation for the remarkable and attentive care provided to its patients and convey most sincere wishes for continued success in all of its future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Regional Rehabilitation Center, its board of directors and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
