A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF CLAUDIS RAY JAMES, SR., AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Claudis Ray James, to eternal rest, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, bringing great sorrow and loss to his family, colleagues and friends; and
WHEREAS, with the untimely demise of Claudis on February 25, 2013, his family lost a cherished family member and valuable keepsake, who was God's gift to his parents, Paul and Dora James; and
WHEREAS, Claudis Ray James was born on November 7, 1943, in Columbia, Mississippi, the youngest of eleven children; and
WHEREAS, Claudis attended Lampton Vocational High School and Marion Central High School where he graduated with highest honors, and then attended Prentiss Institute Junior College in Prentiss, Mississippi, where he played quarterback for the football team; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Prentiss Institute Junior College, Claudis attended Jackson State University where he also played football and was later drafted by and played for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League and received a championship ring as the Packers won the 1968 Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, after leaving the gridiron, Claudis devoted much of his time working with former college and professional players to organize a semiprofessional team and later worked to help youngsters by organizing the Dixie Youth Baseball League in Columbia and the youth baseball league of boys and girls at Tabernacle of Praise Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mr. James was employed for many years with Mississippi School Supply Company where he was a salesman selling sporting equipment to school districts throughout Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Claudis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of John The Baptist Church in Columbia and later Tabernacle of Praise Baptist Church in Jackson; and
WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life, the legacy of his memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors: wife of 44 years, Emma Marie Wells-James; children, Claudis Ray James, Jr., Elton James and Alita James-Nelson; grandchildren, Alailah James and William Nelson IV; sisters, Hilda Boykin, Marie Cole, Edna Braden and Vernell Armstrong; brother, Clyde James; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge the spirit of joy which accompanied Claudis Ray James' birth, which shall also continue to be cherished as an indelible memory in the hearts of his wife, children and other relatives:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Claudis Ray James, Sr., and extend sincere and deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Claudis Ray James, Sr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
