A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OUR LADY ACADEMY CRESCENTS GIRLS SOCCER TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2009-2010 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A/2A/3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Our Lady Academy Crescents Girls Soccer Team finished the 2009-2010 season with a remarkable record of 17 wins and four losses; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the regular season and playoffs, the Crescents fought and defeated many quality teams, and captured the District 8 Championship, the South State Championship and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, during the 2009-2010 season, the Our Lady Academy Crescents Girls Soccer Team made history after capturing the school's eighth state championship by defeating Madison St. Joseph 4-0 in the championship match; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated and superior play and their hard work this season, including the selection of Ashley Libys as an All-State player; the naming of Mischa Tice and Libys as All-Coast players; and the honoring of Blake Stefano, Erin Gibson, Mattison Scardino, Emily Sramek, Tice and Libys as All-District players; and

     WHEREAS, the Crescents have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Christi Elias and Assistant Coaches Steve Reboul, Andie Thornton and Lauren Forte, who have broadened the Crescents' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Christi Elias has brought additional honor to herself and to Our Lady Academy by being named Coach of the Year by The Clarion Ledger and Sun Herald newspapers; and

     WHEREAS, the Crescents have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, the Crescents have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Our Lady Academy; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Our Lady Academy Crescents Girls Soccer Team and their coaches, Head Coach Christi Elias and Assistant Coaches Steve Reboul, Andie Thornton and Lauren Forte, for their phenomenal 2009-2010 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Our Lady Academy, Head Coach Christi Elias, Assistant Coaches Steve Reboul, Andie Thornton and Lauren Forte and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
