WHEREAS, all year Laurel never got the respect they deserved, but that only made the Tornadoes want the win that much more, and although Neshoba kept it close until about four minutes left in the game, Laurel capitalized on back-to-back turnovers and extended their lead from just five points to thirteen, sealing the victory; and

WHEREAS, in addition to several standout performances of individual players, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing his role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Tornadoes championship team is comprised of the following players and coaches:  Jaquez Bester, Demichael Brown, Coby Cook, Troymain Crosby, Charles Cross, Dontario Drummond, Jaylon Ferguson, Jaquez Fountain, Andre George, Anthwan Hatten, Jontarius Henderson, Anthony Jones, JeVah Jones, Austin Lindsey, Tyler Page, Rasaad Pettis, Mathew Tillman, Darius Townsend, Melyjah Windham, Charles Winston; Head Coach Marcus Price; Assistant Coaches, Randy Pettis, Kendrick Purvis, Kendrick McDonald and Rashidi McCormick; and

WHEREAS, the Tornadoes have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Marcus Price, who was District Coach of the Year from 2013-2017 and MAC Coach of the Year for the 2015-2016 season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Laurel High School Tornadoes, whose excellence on and off the court brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Laurel High School Tornadoes Boys Basketball Team upon winning the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship for the second year in a row, and extend best wishes to the players and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
