AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 71-1-21, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROHIBIT CHILDREN UNDER 18 FROM WORKING AFTER 10:00 P.M.; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 71-1-21, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
71-1-21. (1) No boy or girl over fourteen (14) years of age and under sixteen (16) years shall be permitted to work in any mill, cannery, workshop, factory, or manufacturing establishment more than eight (8) hours in one (1) day, or more than forty-four (44) hours in any one (1) week, or be employed in or detained in any such establishment between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
(2) In addition to the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, no boy or girl under the age of eighteen (18) years of age shall be permitted to work after 10:00 p.m. No employer shall schedule or otherwise require a boy or girl under the age of eighteen (18) to work after 10:00 p.m.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
