House Bill 982
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT BANKS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS LOCATED IN MISSISSIPPI FROM CHARGING A FEE TO THE PAYEE OF A CHECK THAT IS DRAWN ON THAT BANK OR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION FOR CASHING SUCH A CHECK FOR THE PAYEE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. No bank or other financial institution located in Mississippi shall charge a fee to the payee of a check that is drawn on that bank or financial institution for cashing such a check for the payee. The Commissioner of Banking and Consumer Finance shall enforce the provisions of this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
