House Bill 942

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE RELEASE OR DISCLOSURE OF DRIVER'S LICENSE INFORMATION TO PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS WHO ARE NOT LICENSED; TO REQUIRE COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL LAW; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  No driver's license information shall be released or disclosed to a private investigator unless such private investigator presents proof of licensure as a private investigator to the Department of Public Safety.  Any release or disclosure of driver's license information must comply with the provisions of 18 USCS 2721 through 18 USCS 2725.  The release or disclosure and the receipt thereof of any driver's license information in violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) or by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2013.
