House Bill 846
AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE UNITED STATES FLAG TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI WHEN A MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES DIES WHILE SERVING ON ACTIVE DUTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) In the event of the death of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States who dies while serving on active duty, the flag of the United States may be flown at half-staff throughout the State of Mississippi upon the issuance of a proclamation so ordering by the Governor.
(2) The authority granted in this section is supplemental to the federal statutes governing the position and manner of display of the United States flag as codified in Section 7, Chapter 1, Title 4 of the United States Code.
(3) As used in the section, the term "half-staff" means the position of the flag when it is one-half (1/2) the distance between the top and bottom of the staff.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
