AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO GRANT PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNDER ITS AUTHORITY THE SAME EXEMPTIONS FROM BOARD REGULATION AND STATUTORY PROVISIONS RELATING TO ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS GRANTED TO PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS; TO REQUIRE THE BOARD TO ADOPT THE SAME REGULATIONS OF THE MISSISSIPPI CHARTER SCHOOL AUTHORIZER BOARD FOR THE GOVERNANCE OF TRADITIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  Upon the passage of "Mississippi Charter School Act of 2013," House Bill No. _____, 2013 Regular Session, the State Board of Education shall grant each public school district the same exemptions from all board regulations and statutory provisions allowed to public charter schools authorized for operation in this state.

     (2)  In addition to granting exemptions to public schools, the State Board of Education shall adopt the regulations of the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board for the governance of public charter schools to govern traditional public schools under its authority.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2013.
