House Bill 414
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE INSTALLATION OR OPERATION OF AUTOMATED CONSUMER ELECTRONIC DEVICE PURCHASING MACHINES IN THE STATE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) No person shall locate, install, operate, allow to be operated, or aid, abet or assist in the installation or operation of an automated consumer electronic device purchasing machine, any automated buy back machine or other similar device within this state.
(2) For purposes of this section, the following words shall have the meanings as defined in this subsection, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) "Automated consumer electronic device purchasing machine" means any automated self-serve kiosk system that buys back personal electronic devices for immediate cash, credit, or a charitable donation.
(b) "Consumer electronic device" means any cell phone, mp3 player, tablet, or other similar device or machine.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2019.
