House Bill 1770

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF HANCOCK COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO HAVE THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF THE COUNTY APPOINT THE YOUTH COURT PROSECUTOR FOR THE COUNTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  Notwithstanding Section 43-21-117, Mississippi Code of 1972, or any other law to the contrary, the Board of Supervisors of Hancock County, Mississippi, is authorized, in its discretion, to have the district attorney of the county appoint the youth court prosecutor of the county.  The individual appointed by the district attorney must be a resident of the county who is an active member of The Mississippi Bar.

     (2)  The youth court prosecutor appointed, as prescribed under this section, shall receive juvenile justice training approved by the Mississippi Attorney General's office and regular annual continuing education in the field of juvenile justice as required under Section 43-21-117, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
