House Bill 1713
AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, TO CONTRIBUTE FUNDS AND APPLY FOR GRANTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING THE CREATION, DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF THE DR. JANE ELLEN MCALLISTER MUSEUM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi, are authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to expend general municipal funds for the purpose of supporting the creation, development and promotion of the Dr. Jane Ellen McAllister Museum. The nonprofit museum, which will be located in Vicksburg, Mississippi, will commemorate the accomplishments of Dr. McAllister who was a Vicksburg native and the first African-American woman in the United States to earn a doctorate degree.
(2) In addition to the authority granted under subsection (1) of this section, the governing authorities are authorized to apply for grants for the funding of the museum.
(3) This section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2027.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
