AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN OF THE CITY OF WEST POINT, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH CRIMINAL CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE MUNICIPAL JUSTICE COURTS; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO THE DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (D.A.R.E.) PROGRAM OF THE CITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Selectmen of the City of West Point, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Two Dollars ($2.00) per case, for each criminal case through the municipal criminal justice courts of the City of West Point.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment, imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section, shall be paid by the city, in any proportion deemed appropriate by the board of selectmen, to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program of the City of West Point, for use in drug education.
(3) The provisions of this section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2016.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
