House Bill 1300
AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT BEFORE AN INMATE MAY BECOME ELIGIBLE TO PERFORM WORK FOR MISSISSIPPI PRISON INDUSTRIES CORPORATION, HE OR SHE MUST MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Before any inmate may perform work for the Mississippi Prison Industries Corporation, the inmate shall meet the following criteria:
(a) The inmate must be within five (5) years of his or her release from the physical custody of the Department of Corrections;
(b) The inmate must reach a benchmark reading skills level;
(c) The inmate must pass a reading exam; and
(d) The inmate must pass an application skills test;
The reading skills level, reading exam and application skills test shall be determined and administered by the Department of Corrections.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2014.
