AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 49-7-31.3, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE HUNTING SEASON FOR SQUIRREL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 49-7-31.3, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     49-7-31.3.  The open season on game animals except deer shall be as follows:

          (a)  On squirrel:  The season shall open on October 1 and run through the next following February 28.  In addition, there may be a spring squirrel season beginning May 2 and running through the next following June 1.  The bag limit for squirrel during the spring season shall be four (4) per day.

          (b)  On rabbits:  The season shall open on the Saturday nearest October 15 and run through February 28 next following, and when rabbits are depredating or destroying crops, the owner of the crops or his tenants may shoot the rabbits with guns.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
