AN ACT TO NAME THE ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION AND RESEARCH COMPLEX, LOCATED IN LORMAN, JEFFERSON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, THE "DR. JESSE HARNESS, SR., EXTENSION AND RESEARCH CENTER"; TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY TO ERECT THE PROPER LETTERING OR SIGNAGE ON THE OUTDOOR FACADE OF THE BUILDING DISPLAYING THE OFFICIAL NAME AS THE "DR. JESSE HARNESS, SR., EXTENSION AND RESEARCH CENTER"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Alcorn State University Extension and Research Complex, located at 1000 ASU Drive 479 in Lorman, Jefferson County, Mississippi, shall be named the "Dr. Jesse Harness, Sr., Extension and Research Center."  The Department of Finance and Administration shall prepare or have prepared a distinctive plaque, to be placed in a prominent place within the building, that states the background, accomplishments and service  of Dr. Jesse Harness, Sr., to Alcorn State University and to the State of Mississippi.  The Department of Finance and Administration in conjunction with the Alcorn State University shall erect or cause to be erected proper lettering or signage on the outdoor facade of the building displaying the official name of the building as the "Dr. Jesse Harness, Sr., Extension and Research Center."  Any and all funds necessary to accomplish this act will be appropriated by the Legislature for such purpose.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
