House Bill 1284
AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE A PERSON ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF COUNTY SUPERVISOR TO REQUEST AN AUDIT OF ALL EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES OR ANY OTHER INVENTORY WITHIN THAT SUPERVISOR'S DISTRICT AND TO AUTHORIZE SUCH SUPERVISOR TO FILE A PETITION TO RECLAIM ANY MISSING EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES OR INVENTORY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. A person elected to the office of county supervisor, within sixty (60) days after taking office, may request an audit of all equipment, supplies or any other inventory that is within that county supervisor's district; and such county supervisor may file a petition in the appropriate court to reclaim any missing equipment, supplies or other inventory or the monetary value of such missing equipment, supplies or other inventory from the person who held the office of county supervisor during the term immediately preceding the term of office for which the county supervisor filing the petition was elected to serve.
SECTION 2. The Attorney General of the State of Mississippi shall submit this act, immediately upon approval by the Governor, or upon approval by the Legislature subsequent to a veto, to the Attorney General of the United States or to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in accordance with the provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended and extended.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after the date it is effectuated under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended and extended.
