House Bill 1099
AN ACT TO PRESCRIBE PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED BY PERSONS WHO HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES REGARDING THE SIGNING, COMPLETION, FORWARDING AND FILING OF A DEATH CERTIFICATE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following procedures shall be followed by those persons who have responsibilities regarding the signing, completion, forwarding and filing of a certificate of death:
(a) The person who investigates and certifies the death shall sign the certificate and forward it to the funeral director within seventy-two (72) hours after the death.
(b) The funeral director shall complete the certificate and forward it to the Office of Vital Records Registration of the State Department of Health for filing within seventy-two (72) hours.
(c) The Office of Vital Records Registration shall provide a copy of the certificate to the funeral home or the deceased's family member of record within seventy-two (72) hours.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2017.
