N ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-29-47, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO BE IN PUBLIC WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE THAT IS UNLAWFUL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 97-29-47, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

If any person shall profanely swear or curse, or use vulgar and indecent language, or be drunk or be under the influence of any drug or controlled substance, the possession of which is unlawful under the Mississippi Controlled Substances Law in any public place, in the presence of two (2) or more persons, such person shall, on conviction thereof, be fined not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) or be imprisoned in the county jail not more than thirty (30) days or both.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2020.
