House Bill 1008
AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE LEGISLATURE TO FUND MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IN AN AMOUNT AT LEAST EQUAL TO THE FUNDING REQUIRED TO MATCH TWENTY PERCENT OF FEDERAL FUNDS FOR ROAD AND HIGHWAY PROJECTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Legislature finds that when the Mississippi Department of Transportation is not fully funded the state loses the opportunity for major road projects serving residents and travelers throughout Mississippi.
(2) The Legislature shall fund the Mississippi Department of Transportation in an amount that is at least equal to the amount of funding necessary to match all road and highway projects undertaken within the State of Mississippi that require a twenty percent (20%) share by the states to receive an eighty percent (80%) share by the federal government.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
