House Bill 1001

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE CARRYING OF A SERVICE WEAPON BY ANY SHERIFF, CONSTABLE OR POLICE OFFICER BEFORE ADMINISTRATIVE WORK IS PERFORMED BY SUCH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER FOR A PERIOD OF 12 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  It shall be unlawful for any sheriff, constable or police officer to carry a service weapon until he or she has performed twelve (12) consecutive months of administrative work within the office or department of such law enforcement.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect from and after July 1, 2012.
