1.1A Senate resolution
1.2expressing gratitude to Command Sergeant Major Stephen Whitehead for
1.3over 30 years of military service.
1.4WHEREAS, Trimont, Minnesota, native Stephen Whitehead joined the Army in 1991.
1.5Deployed overseas twice, he received the prestigious Bronze Star in 2007 for his service in Iraq,
1.6which stands as a testament to his courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Also among his many military
1.7honors are the Meritorious Service Award, the Army Commendation Medal, five Army Achievement
1.8Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Humanitarian
1.9Service Medal. In 2012, he received the Veterans Voices Award from Governor Mark Dayton; and
1.10WHEREAS, Whitehead became Command Sergeant Major for the 84th Troop Command
1.11Brigade in the Minnesota Army National Guard. A combat-disabled veteran, he simultaneously
1.12worked as executive director of the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota Foundation and
1.13served on the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center Consumer Advisory Board, and in
1.142019 was elected national commander of the million-member Disabled American Veterans
1.15organization; and
1.16WHEREAS, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to leadership by rejoining the
1.17military in November 2019, this time as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army National Guard's
1.1834th Red Bull Infantry Division; and
1.19WHEREAS, after an exceptional career of dedicated service to our nation and its veterans,
1.20Whitehead is embarking on his retirement; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22recognizes, honors, and celebrates Command Sergeant Major Whitehead's remarkable sacrifices
1.23and contributions to this country.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Command Sergeant
1.27Major Stephen Whitehead.
