1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing David Montgomery's contributions to journalism during the
1.3COVID-19 pandemic.
1.4WHEREAS, individuals who dedicate their lives to the dissemination of free information
1.5contribute to the collective knowledge and empowerment of citizens on a local and global scale
1.6and perform an invaluable service worthy of special recognition; and
1.7WHEREAS, during times of collective crisis, many people put their trust and faith in unbiased,
1.8well-researched reporting to guide decision-making and keep their families safe; and
1.9WHEREAS, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, David Montgomery's work as a data
1.10journalist for Minnesota Public Radio provided accessible data and thoughtful analysis, collected
1.11in a manner that was both easy to understand and nonpartisan, and, due to the circumstances of the
1.12public health emergency, likely life-saving; and
1.13WHEREAS, through the use of maps, graphs, and charts, David provided vital information
1.14in an understandable and clear manner via Twitter and a daily e-mail newsletter, avenues that
1.15directly connected readers with journalists and provided the opportunity for discussion and
1.16elaboration in real time; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18recognizes David Montgomery's contributions to journalism during the COVID-19 pandemic and
1.19extends warm wishes for his future endeavors.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.21enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.22Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to David Montgomery.
