1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Hunter Connelly of Red Wing High School on winning
1.3the 2016 State High School Class A boys championship in the 100-yard
1.4backstroke.
1.5WHEREAS, competitive sports in our high schools are helpful in teaching the principles of
1.6sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.7WHEREAS, Hunter Connelly, a senior on the Red Wing swimming team, was attempting
1.8to defend his state title in the 100-yard backstroke at the 2016 State High School Class A boys
1.9swimming tournament on March 3-5, 2016, at the U of M Aquatic Center; and
1.10WHEREAS, after qualifying for the final with a preliminary time of 49.67 seconds, Hunter
1.11successfully defended his title in the final with an outstanding time of 48.87 seconds, defeating his
1.12closest competitor by nearly two seconds; and
1.13NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.14congratulates Hunter Connelly of Red Wing High School on winning the 2016 State High School
1.15Class A boys championship in the 100-yard backstroke.
1.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.17enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.18Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Hunter Connelly.
