1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Education and Sharing Day in Minnesota on March 27, 2018, and recognizing
1.3the 56th Anniversary of Chabad Lubavitch.
1.4WHEREAS, excellence in education is vital to the success of our nation and our state and
1.5by preparing our students for the responsibilities and opportunities of the future, education encourages
1.6the adoption of ideals and ethics that equip and unite us in working toward a brighter future;
1.7education must blend the nurturing of the heart and mind, building character through lessons on
1.8honesty, tolerance, and citizenship in addition to developing intellect through lessons on language,
1.9math, and science; and
1.10WHEREAS, one of the spiritual giants of our time and our nation, the Lubavitcher Rebbe,
1.11Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, dedicated his life to the promotion of education as the cornerstone
1.12of humanity. A tireless advocate for youth around the world, the Rebbe emphasized the importance
1.13of education and good character, through the establishment of over 5,000 educational and social
1.14institutions in all 50 states and in 80 countries on six continents; and
1.15WHEREAS, over the last four decades, the United States Congress has set aside "Education
1.16and Sharing Day" and is proclaimed annually by presiding U.S. presidents, on the anniversary of
1.17the Rebbe's birth, in honor of his commitment to teach the next generation of Americans the values
1.18that make our country strong; and
1.19WHEREAS, over the last five decades, the Rebbe took special interest in promoting education
1.20and tolerance and preserving Jewish life and culture in the State of Minnesota. In 1961, Rabbi
1.21Moshe and Mindelle Feller were appointed by the Rebbe to establish Chabad Lubavitch and serve
1.22as his representatives in the North Star State; and
1.23WHEREAS, in the 56 years since then, Chabad Lubavitch has been at the vanguard of Jewish
1.24outreach in the State of Minnesota, bettering the lives of thousands of its citizens, representing a
1.25variety of faiths and religions, uniting for the common purpose of making the world a better place
2.1through acts of goodness and kindness and striving to fulfill the Divine wish to make the entire
2.2world "a Dwelling Place for the A-mighty"; and
2.3WHEREAS, the character of our young people is strengthened by serving a cause greater
2.4than self and by the anchor of virtues, including courage and compassion. By instilling a spirit of
2.5service in our children, we create a more optimistic future for them and our state; and
2.6NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.7recognizes the celebration of Education and Sharing Day in Minnesota and congratulates Chabad
2.8Lubavitch on its achievement of 56 years of service to the community.
2.9BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.10enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.11Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Chabad Lubavitch.
