1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Marine Corporal Ethan Nagel for being awarded a Silver Star.
1.3WHEREAS, those who bravely defend our nation's freedoms in the armed forces are
1.4deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, the Silver Star is the third highest military decoration for valor that can
1.6be awarded to any person serving in any capacity with the United States armed forces, and is
1.7awarded for "gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States"; and
1.8WHEREAS, Marine Corporal Ethan Nagel of Prior Lake, Minnesota, was awarded a Silver
1.9Star at the Navy Operational Support Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday, December 17, 2013,
1.10for his actions in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009; while
1.11wounded himself, Marine Corporal Nagel fired on the enemy and prevented the possibility of a
1.12gravely wounded soldier from being captured by the Taliban; and
1.13WHEREAS, Marine Corporal Nagel is the son of Marie and Mike Nagel, and the younger
1.14brother of Tony, who is also a Marine; in addition, his two grandfathers served in the Marines; and
1.15WHEREAS, Marine Corporal Nagel was presented with the Silver Star by Brigadier
1.16General Hartsell; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18thanks and commends Marine Corporal Ethan Nagel for his courage and resolve under fire, and
1.19congratulates him on being awarded the Silver Star.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.21an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
2.1the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Marine Corporal
2.2Ethan Nagel.
