1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the DeLaSalle High School boys basketball team on winning the 2012
1.3State High School Class AAA championship.
1.4WHEREAS, competitive sports in our high schools are helpful in imparting the principles
1.5of sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.6WHEREAS, the DeLaSalle boys basketball team garnered the second seed in the 2012
1.7State High School Class AAA tournament on March 21-24, 2012, on the strength of their 23-6
1.8regular season record; and
1.9WHEREAS, the Islanders surged past Detroit Lakes and Grand Rapids by a combined
1.10score of 132 to 90 to earn a spot in the state championship game; and
1.11WHEREAS, in a hard fought, closely contested final game, the Islanders edged the Millers
1.12of Minneapolis Washburn 57-56 in overtime by virtue of a buzzer-beating baseline jumper by
1.13senior Ross Barker, an incredible ending to an unforgettable season; and
1.14NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.15congratulates the players, coaches, and managers of the DeLaSalle High School boys basketball
1.16team on winning the 2012 State High School Class AAA basketball championship.
1.17BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.18an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.19the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the principal
1.20of DeLaSalle High School.
