1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Kenny Pecarina for receiving the Eagle Award.
1.3WHEREAS, the Eagle Award is the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America;
1.4and
1.5WHEREAS, attaining the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts is an important achievement that
1.6is worthy of recognition; and
1.7WHEREAS, Kenny Pecarina is a member of the Boy Scouts of America and has displayed
1.8the attributes of a responsible and serving member; and
1.9WHEREAS, as a young child, Kenny survived severe burns to 33 percent of his body. With
1.10the support of his parents, he not only survived but went on to push boundaries and try many new
1.11things; and
1.12WHEREAS, as a People to People ambassador, he traveled to Ireland, England, and Wales.
1.13Kenny also participated in soccer, basketball, and football; earned a black belt at Dojo Karate;
1.14participated in the high school choir; and joined the bowling team; and
1.15WHEREAS, he has demonstrated mastery of all scouting skills and completed a community
1.16service project, which involved providing 145 Comfort Bags to children being treated for burns.
1.17The bags had inspirational messages embroidered on them and were filled with stuffed animals,
1.18coloring books, crayons, toys, water bottles, and lip balm. Kenny also included a card with his burn
1.19survivor story and his photo, which he hoped would provide encouragement for the children starting
1.20their road to recovery; and
1.21WHEREAS, an Eagle Court of Honor was held on September 24, 2017; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23congratulates Kenny Pecarina for receiving the Eagle Award.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
1.25copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the
1.26Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Kenny Pecarina.
