1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to local government; increasing the membership of the city of Melrose
1.3Public Utilities Commission membership from three to five members.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. MELROSE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION INCREASED TO
1.6FIVE MEMBERS.
1.7(a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 412.331 and 412.341, subdivision
1.81:
1.9(1) the Public Utilities Commission of the city of Melrose is increased from three to
1.10five members;
1.11(2) the additional members have three-year terms, and the initial terms of the
1.12additional members must be staggered so that no more than two positions on the
1.13commission are open for appointment in any year; and
1.14(3) no more than one city council member may serve on the commission at any time.
1.15(b) The provisions of Minnesota Statutes, sections 412.331 to 412.391, that do not
1.16conflict with paragraph (a) apply to the additional members to the same extent that they
1.17apply to the other members of the commission.
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE; LOCAL APPROVAL.This section is effective the day after
1.19the governing body of the city of Melrose and its chief clerical officer complete in timely
1.20fashion their compliance with Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.
