1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to cosmetology; prohibiting the use and possession of certain products;
1.3requiring a study;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter
1.4155A.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. [155A.311] PROHIBITION; METHYL METHACRYLATE.
1.7No person practicing cosmetology, manicuring, or esthiology, or conducting or
1.8operating a school or salon licensed under this chapter shall knowingly use, possess,
1.9sell, or offer for sale a product containing a liquid nail monomer containing any trace
1.10of methyl methacrylate (MMA).

1.11    Sec. 2. STUDY; CHEMICAL HAZARDS.
1.12The commissioner of health, in consultation with the board of cosmetologist
1.13examiners, shall study and report to the legislature by December 15, 2011, on the
1.14known and potential health hazards related to chemicals and products routinely used
1.15by cosmetologists, manicurists, and estheticians in providing services licensed under
1.16chapter 155A.
