1.1A House resolution
1.2recognizing the week of May 15, 2017, as Police Week and May 15, 2017, as Peace
1.3Officers Memorial Day.
1.4WHEREAS, the police officers of the United States of America have worked devotedly and
1.5selflessly on behalf of the people of this nation, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves; and
1.6WHEREAS, these officers have safeguarded the lives and property of their fellow Americans;
1.7and
1.8WHEREAS, by the enforcement of our laws, these same officers have given our country
1.9internal freedom from fear of the violence and civil disorder that is presently affecting other nations;
1.10and
1.11WHEREAS, these men and women by their patriotic service and their dedicated efforts have
1.12earned the gratitude of the state of Minnesota; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.13BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota that it
1.14recognizes the week of May 15, 2017, as Police Week, in honor of the service given by the men
1.15and women who, night and day, stand guard in our midst to protect us through enforcement of our
1.16laws; and May 15, 2017, as Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of officers that have been killed
1.17or disabled in the line of duty, and urges all Minnesotans to recognize and support police officers
1.18in their communities.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives is
1.20directed to prepare an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that
1.21of the Speaker, and transmit it to the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association.
