1.2relating to human services; directing the commissioner of human services to
1.3allocate permanent funding for Minnesota Faith in Action;proposing coding for
1.4new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 256.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [256.9761] COMMISSIONER TO ALLOCATE FUNDING;
1.7MINNESOTA FAITH IN ACTION.
1.8 Subdivision 1. Appropriation. The commissioner of human services shall annually
1.9allocate $600,000 from the department's existing budget to support up to 30 existing Faith
1.10in Action volunteer groups in the state not currently receiving ongoing state support at
1.11$20,000 per group. The commissioner shall allocate the funding by issuing up to $300,000
1.12semiannually to Minnesota Faith in Action, to be distributed to the Faith in Action
1.13volunteer groups selected through a request for proposals process jointly agreed to with
1.14the commissioner. These funds must be used to support seniors, the disabled, or persons
1.15with long-term illnesses in areas of: transportation, home modifications, chores, friendly
1.16visiting, and respite care. Services performed must be secular in nature.
1.17 Subd. 2. Report. The Faith in Action groups selected are required to report
1.18quarterly to the commissioner of human services as to (1) number of persons served by the
1.19funds, and (2) types of services provided. The commissioner reserves the right to cancel
1.20funding to any group at any time the commissioner determines the funds are not being
1.21spent in accordance with this section. The performance of the selected Faith in Action
1.22groups must be evaluated jointly and be used as a future funding criterion. This funding
1.23must be available on an ongoing basis to support the activities in this section. For purposes
1.24of this section, "Minnesota Faith in Action" is the state association of Faith in Action and
2.1is a 501(c)(3) corporation. A participating Faith in Action volunteer group must be a
2.2501(c)(3) corporation or have a fiscal host that is a 501(c)(3) corporation.
