SENATE BILL NO. 967

July 30, 2024, Introduced by Senator IRWIN and referred to the Committee on Education.

A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

"The revised school code,"

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1202b.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1202b. (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (4), a school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy shall post on its public website the name of each member of its governing body and contact information for each member that includes all of the following:

(a) An email address or a website contact form that allows a written communication to be electronically sent to the member.

(b) A mailing address.

(c) A telephone number.

(2) If information posted on a public website under subsection (1) changes, the school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy shall update the public website within 30 days to reflect the correct information.

(3) The contact information provided under subsection (1) may include a shared email address, website contact form, mailing address, or phone number if communications made to a member through that shared contact method will be transmitted to that member.

(4) Instead of posting the information described in subsection (1) on its public website, a school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy may post a link to the public website of its governing body if both of the following requirements are met:

(a) The governing body's public website contains the information described in subsection (1).

(b) The governing body's public website is updated in accordance with subsection (2).

(5) As used in this section:

(a) "Governing body" means the board of a school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of a public school academy.

(b) "Member" means a member of the governing body.
