A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding sections 1526b and 1526c.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 1526b. (1) The board of a school
district or intermediate school district or the board of directors of a public
school academy shall biannually provide at least 4 hours of professional
development concerning the recognition, prevention, and reporting of human
trafficking to each teacher who is employed by the school district,
intermediate school district, or public school academy.
(2)
The professional development required under subsection (1) must include
recommendations by the human trafficking commission for minimum standards for
training on the recognition, prevention, and reporting of human trafficking.
The human trafficking commission shall provide recommendations for minimum
standards for training as described under this subsection to school districts,
intermediate school districts, and public school academies.
(3)
Professional development provided under this section may be counted toward the
professional development required under section 1527.
(4)
As used in this section:
(a)
"Human trafficking" means a violation under chapter LXVIIA of the
Michigan penal code, 1931 PA 328, MCL 750.462a to 750.462h.
(b)
"Human trafficking commission" means the human trafficking commission
established under section 3 of the human trafficking commission act, 2014 PA
325, MCL 752.973.
Sec. 1526c. (1) The board of a school
district or intermediate school district or the board of directors of a public
school academy shall biannually provide at least 4 hours of professional
development concerning the recognition, prevention, and reporting of human
trafficking to each individual who is qualified to act in a counseling role
under section 1233 or 1233a and who is employed by the school district,
intermediate school district, or public school academy.
(2)
The professional development required under subsection (1) must include
recommendations by the human trafficking commission for minimum standards for
training on the recognition, prevention, and reporting of human trafficking.
The human trafficking commission shall provide recommendations for minimum
standards for training as described under this subsection to school districts,
intermediate school districts, and public school academies.
(3)
As used in this section:
(a)
"Human trafficking" means a violation under chapter LXVIIA of the
Michigan penal code, 1931 PA 328, MCL 750.462a to 750.462h.
(b) "Human trafficking commission" means the human trafficking commission established under section 3 of the human trafficking commission act, 2014 PA 325, MCL 752.973.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. 772 of the 100th Legislature is enacted into law.
