A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1164.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1164. A school district that teaches United States
history in a middle school or high school grade is encouraged to
focus the content of instruction regarding labor history in the
United States on at least 1 or more of the following subjects:
Detroit topographical society, Detroit trades assembly,
establishment of the American federation of labor, establishment of
the Michigan federation of labor, congress of industrial
organizations, establishment of the united automobile workers, the
great Flint sitdown, "arsenal of democracy", Walter Reuther, the
merger of the American federation of labor and congress of
industrial organizations, or the effect of the North American free
trade agreement on labor. This section is not intended to prohibit
or limit teaching about other areas of labor history in the United
States.
