SUBSTITUTE FOR
SENATE BILL NO. 294
A bill to amend 1972 PA 230, entitled
"Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act,"
(MCL 125.1501 to 125.1531) by adding section 13h.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 13h. (1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this act
or the code, the following are exempt for K-12 schools from any
heating requirements provided by this act or the code:
(a) An interior space intended for human occupancy that is
constructed for use as a viewing area at an outdoor sporting
activity or event, including, but not limited to, a press box.
(b) A building or structure that is incidental to an outdoor
sporting activity or event, including, but not limited to, a ticket
booth or concession stand.
(2) An accessible route, as that term is defined in the code,
is not required for either of the following:
(a) Press boxes in bleachers, if the aggregate area of all
press boxes for each playing field is not more than 500 square
feet.
(b) Freestanding press boxes, if the aggregate area of all
press boxes for each playing field is not more than 500 square
feet.
(3) As used in this section, "aggregate area" does not include
the square footage of any connecting facilities or structures
beyond the floor plan of a press box, including, but not limited
to, a hallway, ramp, staircase, elevator, or lift.
