SENATE BILL No. 239

 

 

March 21, 2019, Introduced by Senators CHANG, MOSS and WOJNO and referred to the Committee on Regulatory Reform.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1980 PA 299, entitled

 

"Occupational code,"

 

by amending section 1803 (MCL 339.1803).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1803. (1) The placing of a chemical on or in a dead human

 

body by a person an individual who is not the holder of a license

 

for the practice of mortuary science is a violation of this

 

article.

 

     (2) This article shall does not apply to a resident trainee

 

any of the following individuals if he or she is working under the

 

supervision of a holder of a license for the practice of mortuary

 

science: .

 

     (a) A resident trainee.

 

     (b) A student who is enrolled in a higher education program in

mortuary science at a school, college, or university that is

 

accredited by an accrediting agency that is recognized by the

 

United States Secretary of Education as a specialized accrediting

 

agency in funeral service or mortuary science.

 

     (3) A person who is engaged An individual shall not engage in

 

the practice of embalming, or who professes profess to be engaged

 

in that practice, or who represents that the person the practice of

 

embalming, or represent that he or she is an embalmer shall be if

 

he or she is not the holder of a license for the practice of

 

mortuary science under this article.
