house resolution no.309

Reps. Hoitenga, Outman, Griffin, LaFave, Markkanen, Borton, Carra, Steven Johnson, Meerman, Fink and Clements offered the following resolution:

A resolution to urge the federal government to withdraw membership in the World Health Organization and suspend all payments to the organization.

Whereas, The United States government has historically been one of the largest funders of the World Health Organization, providing between $200 million and $600 million annually over the last decade. These contributions have exceeded membership contributions to include voluntary contributions. Voluntary contributions are made of funds that could be redirected to actually help Americans; and

Whereas, The World Health Organization was unable to successfully manage the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization recommended lockdowns, mandates, and vaccine passports, none of which have stopped the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We cannot continue to place our trust or our hard-earned taxpayer dollars in the hands of the World Health Organization; and

Whereas, The World Health Assembly, comprised of representatives from the World Health Organization’s 194 member states, is poised to vote on the Biden Administration’s proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations. These proposed amendments would strengthen the World Health Organization’s ability to declare health emergencies without the consent of State parties; and

Whereas, These proposed amendments raise significant concerns regarding our country’s sovereignty. Without consent from the United States, the declaration of an international health emergency may cause undue economic and financial actions by other nations, ostracism, or other negative consequences; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we urge the federal government to withdraw membership in the World Health Organization and suspend all payments to the organization; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States of America, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the President of the United States Senate, and members of the Michigan congressional delegation.
