House Resolution No. 147.
A resolution to declare May 2013 as Wrestling Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Wrestling is recognized as one of the world's oldest competitive sports dating back to 3000 B.C.; and
Whereas, Wrestling was one of the original sports of the ancient Greek Olympic games and of the first modern Olympic games; and
Whereas, Wrestling is one of the world's most diverse sports, with participants from almost 200 countries around the world; and
Whereas, More than 280,000 high school students in the United States participated in wrestling in 2012; and
Whereas, There are more than 350 intercollegiate wrestling programs in the United States; and
Whereas, Wrestling represents the determination and hard work it takes to succeed in life and sports; and
Whereas, The United States has a long, proud and storied Olympic wrestling history; and
Whereas, Wrestling epitomizes the spirit of the Olympic Games; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare May 2013 as Wrestling Month in the state of Michigan.
