HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION V

 

July 18, 2013, Introduced by Reps. Singh, Zemke, Irwin, Dillon, Hobbs, Tlaib, Faris, Townsend, Schor, Segal, McCann, Lipton, Hovey-Wright, Slavens, Switalski, Robinson, Barnett, Roberts, Knezek, Geiss and Greimel and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

 

     A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state

 

constitution of 1963, by repealing section 25 of article I, to

 

allow the recognition of marriage or similar unions of two people.

 

     Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the

 

state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state

 

constitution of 1963, to allow the recognition of marriage or

 

similar unions of two people, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted

 

to the people of the state:

 

ARTICLE I

 

     Sec. 25. To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for

 

our society and for future generations of children, the union of

 

one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement

 

recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose.


 

     Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be

 

submitted to the people of the state at the next general election

 

in the manner provided by law.
