HOUSE BILL NO. 6084

May 05, 2022, Introduced by Reps. Liberati, Bezotte, Borton, LaFave, Steenland, Hood, Aiyash, O'Malley, Eisen, Young, Yaroch, Bellino and Markkanen and referred to the Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security.

A bill to amend 1953 PA 192, entitled

"An act to create a county department of veterans' affairs in certain counties, and to prescribe its powers and duties; to create the county veteran service fund and to provide for contributions to and expenditures from that fund; and to transfer the powers and duties of the soldiers' relief commission in those counties,"

(MCL 35.621 to 35.624) by adding section 3b.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 3b. (1) If a county department of veterans' affairs receives a notice of a report of abuse under the veteran abuse reporting act, the county department of veterans' affairs shall do both of the following:

(a) Contact the veteran identified in the report of abuse directly or contact the veteran's legal guardian or individual with power of attorney for the veteran.

(b) Refer the veteran to services administered by the department of military and veterans affairs.

(2) As used in this section, "report of abuse" means a report of suspected or alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation, as those terms are defined in section 11 of the social welfare act, 1939 PA 280, MCL 400.11, concerning a veteran.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 6083 (request no. 04646'21 *) of the 101st Legislature is enacted into law.
