HOUSE BILL No. 5751

 

June 14, 2012, Introduced by Rep. Olumba and referred to the Committee on Redistricting and Elections.

 

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 388, entitled

 

"Michigan campaign finance act,"

 

(MCL 169.201 to 169.282) by adding section 52b.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 52b. (1) A person that has entered into a contract having

 

a value in excess of $50,000.00 with this state or a political

 

subdivision of this state shall not make a contribution to a

 

candidate or committee during the term of that contract.

 

     (2) A candidate or committee shall not accept a contribution

 

that is prohibited by this section.

 

     (3) If the secretary of state determines that a candidate or

 

committee has accepted a contribution that violates this section,

 

the secretary of state shall notify the candidate or committee of

 

the violation. The candidate or committee, within 30 days after

 


receiving the notice from the secretary of state, shall return the

 

contribution that caused the violation of this section to the

 

contributor of the contribution.

 

     (4) As used in this section, "political subdivision" means a

 

county, city, village, or township.
