HOUSE BILL No. 5719

 

June 1, 2012, Introduced by Reps. Heise, Somerville, Constan, Cavanagh, Bledsoe and Slavens and referred to the Committee on Local, Intergovernmental, and Regional Affairs.

 

     A bill to amend 1965 PA 261, entitled

 

"An act to authorize the creation and to prescribe the powers and

duties of county and regional parks and recreation commissions; and

to prescribe the powers and duties of county boards of

commissioners with respect to county and regional parks and

recreation commissions,"

 

(MCL 46.351 to 46.367) by adding section 5a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 5a. (1) Any funds received by a county from fees,

 

charges, gifts, or taxes authorized by a vote of qualified electors

 

to support the operation of a county park system shall be

 

apportioned among the cities, villages, and townships of the county

 

based on the following:

 

     (a) Fifty percent of the money collected shall be expended for

 

projects and portions of the park system in the city, village, or

 

township from which the money was received.

 

     (b) Fifty percent of the money collected shall be expended for


 

the general operation of the entire county park system.

 

     (2) This section applies only to a charter county with a

 

population of 1,500,000 or more.
